ABP wins RTPI ‘In-House Planning Team of the Year’ Award 2023

Yesterday, Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s largest port operator, won the prestigious “In-House Planning Team of the Year” category at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)’s Awards for Planning Excellence, recognising the creativity and success of its planning and consenting team.

Held in central London, the national awards are amongst the most respected in the UK planning sector and celebrate the best and most innovative talent and projects across different industries. RTPI’s judges described ABP as a strong, dynamic, close-knit team who go above and beyond to deliver social and environmental benefits, using traditional and imaginative techniques.

Ian Henderson, ABP Head of Property, commented: “Congratulations to our outstanding planning team for scooping one of the most prestigious awards in the planning sector. This is a testament to the fantastic work they do to support our customers and growth and jobs across coastal communities.”

Andrew Clarke, ABP Head of Masterplanning, added: “This is a great result for our team. A big driver for us is our shared passion for the future of ports and their incredible potential to become hubs of opportunity and enabling the UK’s wider energy transition.

“Some examples of our recent work we are very proud of include our “Future Ports: Wales Vision” and a focus on Port Talbot, which shows how ports can support good quality jobs and trigger a green industrial revolution in Wales.”

Sophie Young, ABP Consents and Environment Lead, said: “Our small, expert team has a very big remit - covering 21 Ports spanning England, Wales and Scotland and all scales of development from Local Planning, Marine Licensing and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.

“Well done to the other finalists - and a huge congratulations to our planning and consenting team for being recognised on a national scale.”

With over 1,000 hectares, a portfolio of over 1,000 tenants and strategically located ports, ABP has a uniquely diverse and compelling proposition. Offering tailored, sustainable solutions to new and existing tenants, ABP is one of the biggest commercial landowners in the country.

This year, ABP will also be exhibiting at The UK’s Real Estate and Investment Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF), 21st – 23rd May 2024 on stand B56. Commercial real estate businesses, developers and manufacturers are welcome to speak to our property experts about how we can support their businesses.

ABP’s ambition for growth is complemented by the company’s strong focus on sustainability and enabling the UK’s clean energy transition. In February 2023, ABP launched its sustainability strategy, ‘Ready for Tomorrow’, which sets out its plans to become net zero by 2040 at the latest. This has the potential to bring a range of benefits from attracting billions of pounds of investment to creating hundreds of thousands of jobs for local communities and improving the UK’s energy security.
