Overview
The Port of Troon specialises in handling timber and is a historic fish port as well as being a popular destination for cruise passengers. The Port’s TimberLINK service utilises short-sea shipping to transport timber from the Argyll and Cowall peninsulas to sawmills and industrial users in Ayrshire. This ground-breaking initiative by ABP, which transfers the movement of timber from the road to the sea, handles around 100,000 tonnes each year. It is estimated this saves around one million lorry miles annually, relieving congestion on local roads and cutting carbon emissions.
